In 2017, the Jasper Farmers’ Market introduced Market Bucks through a grant made available from the Dubois County Community Foundation.
WHAT ARE MARKET BUCKS?
Market bucks are currency that customers can spend at the market. Two types of bucks are available, Gift Bucks and Fresh Bucks.
GIFT BUCKS
Gift Bucks are green $1 tokens that can be used towards the purchase of any items from participating market vendors.
Customers can buy them for their face value and give them as gifts to friends to encourage shopping at the market.
Some local shops may even accept them as coupons knowing they can in turn use them to buy items from the market.
FRESH BUCKS
With Fresh Bucks we want to reach customers who are food-insecure and may shy away from the market because we do not participate in programs like SNAP or WIC. This program is funded by grants and the generosity of our community. As a result, it is limited to Dubois County residents.
These orange $2 tokens can be used to purchase any produce or baked goods from participating market vendors. They cannot be used toward the purchase of hot food items, beverages, or non-food items.
Fresh Bucks will be available as funds allow. They are currently being distributed to WIC. At the market, up to $10 in fresh bucks can be purchased for $5 per customer per Saturday. Documentation showing active enrollment in WIC or SNAP is required.
ALL BUCKS
No change is given when purchasing items with market bucks. When the purchase total exceeds the bucks amount, the customer should pay the difference in cash. When the purchase total is less than the bucks amount, the vendor should help the customer find an item to cover the amount.
Only season vendors can redeem market bucks for their cash value.
CAN I BE A FRESH BUCKS BENEFACTOR?
Absolutely. Anyone can support the Jasper Farmers Market Fresh Bucks program.
Make checks payable to the GDJBA and send to PO BOX 307 Jasper, IN 47546-0307. Make sure to write “Fresh Bucks” in the memo field. You may also just stop at the market and ask for the market master.
